Did you know that the products you put in and on your body impact your weight and health? Yes, it's true. The chemicals and synthetic toxins in many skincare, makeup, and even cleaning products can create hormone imbalances and often lead to weight gain. Learn how to get clean products in this post that benefit your health rather than harm it!
You're probably thinking "how can my makeup foundation lead to weight gain? That's crazy!"
Right? We have to think again, sister.
Our skin is our biggest organ. This means that what we put on our skin gets absorbed into our bloodstream. These chemicals and toxins get into our bodies and have to be detoxified by our liver.
What if our liver is already burdened?
The liver is our main detox organ. This means that it is working around the clock, filtering our blood and working to keep us healthy. However, sometimes we can take for granted how much it really does for us.
Have you ever had times where you drank too much alcohol during a party weekend with friends? Or maybe you ate fast food too often and had a stomachache?
All of these things make our liver work extra hard and overtime.
When it's tired and overworked, our liver will function at a suboptimal level if we are not taking the time to support it properly, gently cleanse, and detoxify regularly.
This can lead to weight gain and difficulty losing weight.
So, it is important that we take the time to let our liver relax and cleanse our gut and body.
So, How Do You Detox?
Step 1- Cut out the inflammatory foods/drinks.
This can seem like a big change for many people, however how you feel after will be a big motivator. Inflammatory foods and drinks include:
You might be thinking "how will I get by without those in my life?!" The answer is replace them with better options. You'll be feeling so great you won't look back.
Step 2: Replace with:

Step 3: Cut the toxic products.
This is a huge one. Unfortunately, many of the products that appear to be "clean" are not even safe. For example, I got a cleaning spray from Trader Joe's (disclaimer - I normally love Trader Joe's, so this was not typical of their products) and it has sulfites in it. Sulfates, sulfites, and parabens are three main groups of chemicals that should be avoided due to how they negatively impact the body's gut and hormones.
More chemicals to watch out for in makeup that have been found to cause cancer, thyroid issues, birth defects, and reproductive harm include:
Many of these chemicals are thyroid disruptors and known carcinogens. Thyroid diseases are on the rise, and according to the American Thyroid Association, 20 million Americans have a thyroid disorder.
Using clean products is not something we should take lightly. Let's stick together and demand health from our products and skincare!
Step 4: Add in pure, clean, and beneficial products to your lifestyle.
This means you'll either have to check the label or go with a brand that you can truly trust.
Here are a few of mine that I inherently trust. That means no harsh chemicals, no parabens, or anything on the nasty list from above.
